With the 47th Pick in the 2009 Draft.....
The Oakland Raiders select Ohio DB Michael Mitchell. The former CovCath Colonel and Highlands Bluebird was certainly one of the suprise selections in this years Draft. Most of the Draft Experts out there have panned this selection, saying that Mitchell in Round 2 is a BIG reach. While certainly he has good NFL Safety size, and was impressive in his predraft workouts, a lot of people pointed to the fact that he wasn't productive enough at the college level against lower level competition to warrant a second round selection.
We'll see if Mitchell and the Raiders can prove the critics wrong.

Cincinnati Bengals and the Draft
Saturday marks Round 1 of the NFL draft and the Cincinnati Bengals hold the 6th pick in the first round. Who do they select? Most of the "experts" seem to think it will be between Virginia offensive tackle Eugene Monroe and Alabama offensive tackle Andre Smith. If both are available, who do the Bengals opt for? Monroe is the better pass blocker, and we all know Carson Palmer needs the protection. Smith is the better run blocker and the Bengals have always been best when they run the ball well.
The wild-card could be Wake Forest LB Aaron Curry, if he falls to the 6th spot, he'd be hard to pass up. If Curry is there, do the Bengals take him and hope they get a quality tackle in round 2? I guess only Mike and Marvin know for sure.
Of course they could always trade down and add the the 11 picks they have in this seasons draft. Only time will tell. Come tomorrow about 2:00pm EDT, we will have our answer.

Jane Meier Resigns as NKU Athletic Director
An era has ended at Northern Kentucky University as Jane Meier has resigned as athletic director at Northern Kentucky University.( Effective July 31)
Meier, who has been the AD for the past 21 years, has been employed in the NKU athletic department since 1978 when she was originally hired as a volleyball coach.
She has also served as head softball and women's basketball coach.
During Meier's reign as AD, NKU won 2 Division II womens basketball national titles, 20 regional championships and 61 GLVC regular-season or tournament chasmpionships.
Above all, Meier is a first- class person.
I've had the pleasure over my 26 years at ICN6 to deal with Meier as a coach and then an AD
and she has been first class.
I hope to have Jane on the show next week. (Week of April 7th)

UK lands Coach Cal!
Yesterday, Kentucky officially introduced John Calipari as its new mens basketball coach. Calipari comes from Memphis where he led the Tigers to the national title game last season, and a Sweet 16 appearance this year.
Is anyone worried that Calipari, while certainly winning A LOT of games, hasn't really done so in a "major conference". Lets face it, the Conference USA that Memphis has dominated the last few years was an absolute joke, and at UMASS, the Atlantic 10 wasn't exactly the most intimidating field.
Certainly, the SEC has been down for the last couple of seasons, and Calipari may be able to take Kentucky back to the top of a weakened conference next season. But the SEC won't be down for long. In the long run, can Calipari dominate the SEC the way he dominated Conference-USA?
